Operational Procedures for Noise Abatement

Qantas b747 over houses

  • NADP 1 (Noise Abatement Departure Procedure 1): Intended to provide noise reduction for noise-sensitive areas in close proximity to the departure end of the runway.
    • Thrust reduction at/above 800 ft (and typically below 1500 ft).
    • Maintain V2 + 10-20 kt.
    • Retract flaps and slats at 3,000 ft.
  • NADP 2 (Noise Abatement Departure Procedure 2): Intended to provide noise reduction for areas more distant from the runway end.
    • Thrust reduction at/above 800 ft.
    • Accelerate towards Vzf (Zero Flap Speed) while retracting flaps/slats (between 800 ft and 3,000 ft).
    • Continue climb at transition speed.

Restrictions

  • Noise abatement procedures should not be executed below 800 ft AGL.
  • Safety always takes precedence over noise abatement (e.g., wind shear, engine failure, traffic avoidance).
