Fire and Smoke Procedures
Types of Fire

- Engine Fire: Detected by loops. Indicated by Bell/Light. Procedure: Power lever idle, Fuel lever cutoff, Fire Handle Pull/Rotate (Discharge agent).
- Cabin Fire: Visible smoke/flames. Use hand extinguishers (Halon 1211). Don PBE (Protective Breathing Equipment).
- Hidden Fire: Behind panels/cargo. Difficult to locate.
- Toilet Fire: Detected by smoke detector. Automatic extinguisher in waste bin (heat activated).
Pilot Actions
- Oxygen Masks: ON/100%/Emergency (if smoke present).
- Communication: Established between pilots.
- Divert: Land ASAP (Nearest Suitable Airport). "Time is critical".
- Smoke Removal: If source cannot be extinguished, consider smoke removal procedures (depressurization or smoke evavuation valve).
Lithium Batteries
If a PED (Personal Electronic Device) catches fire:
- Do NOT use ice (insulates heat).
- Douse with water/non-flammable liquid to cool cells.
- Move to a safe place (process usually involves a containment bag).
