Non-load-bearing surfaces

Areas such as taxiway shoulders, which cannot support the weight of the aircraft but are not readily distinguishable from the load-bearing pavement, shall be marked.

  • Taxi side stripe marking:
    • Pair of solid lines, 15 cm wide each, spaced 15 cm apart.
    • Same color as the taxiway centerline markings (usually yellow).
    • Indicate the edge of the load-bearing pavement.

Pre-threshold area

When the surface before the threshold is paved (more than 60 m) but not suitable for normal use (e.g., blast pad or stopway not usable for taxiing):

  • Chevron marking:
    • Arrow-shaped markings (v) pointing towards the runway.
    • Color: Yellow.
    • Indicates that the area must not be used for landing, takeoff, or taxiing.
